Two-player board games
Last checked 17 October 2026 · Prices from United Kingdom (UK) shops
Plenty of games say ‘2 players’ on the box and feel a bit thin with only two. Everything here is either made for two or plays really well at two. Good for a weeknight, a café table, or a game once the kids are in bed. Each card shows the play time. Most are head-to-head, and two are co-ops (you play on the same side, against the game) if you'd rather not compete.
1. Patchwork
Buy oddly shaped fabric patches with buttons and fit them into your quilt. Think friendly Tetris for two.
- Players
- 2 players only
- Age
- 8+
- Play time
- about 30 minutes
- How easy to teach
- Explain in 5 minutes
Why it suits this: Uwe Rosenberg's quilt game is calm, clever and very satisfying. You're each building your own quilt, so it rarely feels mean, and a game takes about half an hour. Buttons are the money, which is a nice touch.

Some details (players, age or time) still need checking against the publisher. Two players only is confirmed by the publisher. Age (14+) and time (15 minutes per landing) are from a UK retailer listing and still need checking against the box.

How we choose and check
We pick games for the situation, and ignore hobby rankings and hype. Player counts, ages and play times come from the publisher's own page or the box wherever we can get them. If we haven't confirmed something yet, the card says so. Prices are checked by hand at UK shops on the date shown, and nobody pays us to include a game. See how we make money.
